Tuesday Treats : Learn a new skill

January 12, 2016 by WendyB 8 Comments

Tuesday Treats are always fun…..I get to look up new and different things to try and today is no exception.

If you have ‘liked’ me on Facebook, you may have already seen this YouTube video….it caught my eye yesterday and I thought what a wonderfully interesting, and more importantly, transportable do-anywhere craft!

It’s needle tatting!  Now, this is not something I’d ordinarily search out to do, but it struck me as something my mother used to do many many years ago and it always fascinated me.  Although thinking back, she did shuttle tatting, I’m sure…..  So I thought this would be a great, DIFFERENT skill to learn….perhaps something you could do in the car, waiting at the doctors’, watching the kids play sport, etc…..after all, you only need a needle, your fingers and some crochet cotton……and, even more importantly, you could create some unique embellishments for your quilts and stitcheries! *wink* …..ahaaaaa….now you’re with me.

Totus Mel is the creator and has her own YouTube channel (search Totus Mel) and is featured on Instructables….a website that shows you how to make and do a whole lotta ‘stuff’……like  how to make a zip tie fruit bowl…….ziptiefruitbowl

how to organise your fabric with mini fabric bolt storage ideas…..

fabric storage

even, how to make amazing blueberry muffins….now they’re always good for FNSI.…

For these, and other great ideas, pop on over to Instructables, create a free account and prepare to be amazed!

have fun with today’s Tuesday Treat….I’d love to see your tatting efforts so make sure you post pictures of your progress.

A friend sent me information on needle tatting while Paul and I were still traveling, and I never did try it, but I ought to one of these days. I still have the information, the needles, the book, everything to try it out!

She is obviously very creative – I thought the needle tatting would be good for when you want to make a loop to go around a button…might try that one day..
